How to Check Disk Space Usage in cPanel?

All the website files and data will be stored in the cPanel of your website. But where to check is the question most of the users have. The answer is simple, you have to Check Disk Space Usage in cPanel under the “Disk Usage” option. But how to check where and which files or folders have been consumed more?

How to Check the Disk Space Usage?

cPanel will be the interface where you will access and check the statistics of disk space usage. It will display information about your website directory, folder, and how much space each folder has utilized. You can view that information by sorting out with directory name and usage. This will help you figure out the high amount of space using files and remove that if you doesn’t require it or you can request to the hosting provider to increase the disk space.

 

Steps to Check the Disk Usage in cPanel:

Step 1: Login to cPanel of the website.

Step 2: Search “Disk Usage” option and click it under the Files Section.

Step 3: Here you can see the list of directory with the MB and disk space usage in bar. Additionally, you can discover if the disk space usage has been utilized in any hidden directory apart from the main public_html folder.

“Files in Home directory” – All the files and folders except mentioned in the screenshot which is inside the file manager.

“Files in hidden subdirectories” – All the Dot files and folders which is inside the file manager.

Step 4: You can see more information with folder wise and disk usage wise using “sort by” option which you can scroll down in the same page and find it.

If you click the “disk Usage” radio button, it will sort by high usage to low usage in bytes. To view exactly which  subdirectory utilized more MB usage, click the > icon next to the parent directory’s name.

Important:

If you receive a Write failed: disk quota exceeded warning, your account has used the maximum amount of disk space that your quota allows.

  • Contact your hosting provider if you want to increase the disk space limit.
  • If you try to upload files or migrate any content, it will not get completed fully due to disk quota exceed.
  • You cannot save or edit any files in cPanel till you reduce or increase the limit.
  • Even if the disk space is not exceeded, you might face the disk quota exceed error because of Inodes count exceed. This option will only be visible in cPanel under statistics section if hosting provider enables in server.
  • Please take backup of the file before you delete any files.
