How to Remove “Powered by WordPress” in Footer?

Whenever you’re installing WordPress Free Theme from the WordPress theme directory, you’ll seen the message “Powered by WordPress Theme” in footer. If you’re using the WordPress default theme, you’ll probably find it there. Or depending on the theme, it will display the theme developer details.

Is it permissible to remove the Powered by WordPress footer?

Removing the ‘Powered by WordPress’ footer is a common choice. Many website owners will do this for reasons such as showing brand identity, achieving a clean design, and personalizing their site’s appearance.

Different ways to remove Powered by WordPress

1. Disabling Theme Settings

This is the most common ways to remove the footer. But it is not suitable for all themes. For example, Default WordPress themes, like Twenty Twenty or Twenty Twenty One, do not have this option.

Go to Appearance -> Customize, check whether the theme offer this option or not. If it is available, check the Widgets or Footer settings to see whether you can remove the credit from footer.

Here we are using Astra theme to remove its default credit using the WordPress theme settings. Under the WordPress theme customizer settings, click on Footer Builder -> Copyright.

From Copyright option, you can remove the whole Copyright section, customize it, or only remove the credit section.

2. Remove Footer Credit by Using a Plugin

Another option is to use a WordPress plugin, which works with many themes. One popular choice is Remove Footer Credit. This free plugin lets you remove or customize your website’s footer credit without coding.

After installing the plugin, Kindly follow the below steps to remove theme credit,

1. Open your Website Home Page and inspect its elements. The method for doing this varies by browser. For example In Google Chrome, you can right-click anywhere on the page and choose “View Page Source,” or just use the keyboard shortcut CTRL + U.

– Search the “Powered by” message.
– Copy the code from the snippet.

3. Go to the WordPress Dashboard and navigate to Tools > Remove Footer Credit. In the Settings section, paste the code snippet under Step 1 to remove the footer credit.

3. Removing it Manually from the Theme Editor
