How to disable comments on WordPress?
There are several ways to disable comments on WordPress. In this article, we will explore six different methods.
Method 1: Disable Comments on All Your Published Posts and Pages in WordPress.
If you want to disable all comments on website, this method is for you.
First you have to delete all existing comments under your blogs and pages.
- Navigate to the WordPress admin area.
- Go to comments you will see the all comments that you have received on your website.
- Select all the comments by clicking the box located on the top left corner of the table.
- Select move to trash from the bulk actions drop down box.
- Click apply.
You are now going to remove all the comments that are currently on your website. However, the comment section from WordPress will still be there. This means that visitors can still leave comments on your posts and pages.
To make sure this doesn’t happen again in future posts, we can simply turn off the comment section for every post and page.
- Go to the Posts section and click on All Posts. You will find a table that shows all the posts you have published.
2. To select all the posts, click the box in the top left corner of the table. Then, pick Edit from the Bulk Actions menu.
- Look for the Comments section and select Do not allow from the drop-down menu.
- Finally, select Update to apply the changes to the article settings.
Method 2: Turn Off Comments for New WordPress Posts.
The first way can stop comments on your old WordPress posts and pages, but it won’t stop people from commenting on new articles. Luckily, there’s a special setting you can use to fix this problem.
- From your WordPress admin area, go to Settings > Discussion
- In the Default post settings, make sure to uncheck the box that says Allow people to submit comments on new posts.
If you use these settings, your WordPress site will stop people from leaving comments on future posts.
Method 3: Turn Off Comments for Certain Posts and Pages in WordPress
If you want to disable comments for any specific post or pages. The steps are very similar to the bulk edit section of method 1.
The difference is that you only need to select several posts and pages instead of all of them.
- Go to your WordPress admin area and navigate to Posts > All Posts.
- Find the post that you want to disable the comments and check the respective box.
- Select Edit from the drop-down box and click Apply.
- Make sure that you selected the correct posts under Bulk Edit.
- Choose do not allow in the drop-down box and click update.
Method 4: Disable WordPress Comments on an Individual Post or Page
The first three ways focus on turning off comments for all posts or a bunch of them at once. However, you can also choose to turn comments off or on for each post or page separately.
- To the right in the post area, click on Settings, then scroll down until you find the Discussion box and click to open it.
- Click on Closed.
- Save changes by clicking Publish or Update.

This plugin lets you turn off all comments with just one click. You can also pick to disable comments only on your posts, pages, or media if you want.
Once you install the WordPress plugin, go to settings > Disable comments on your WordPress admin area.
The settings are divided into two sections: Disable Comments and Delete Comments. The first option takes away the comment box, while the second option deletes the comments you’ve gotten on your WordPress site.

- From your WordPress admin area, go to media > Library.
- Find a media file and choose Edit.
- Under Discussion, uncheck allow comments.
- Click Updates.
