What is a Web Address and Why do we call a website in the name of Web Address or URL? The address of the website is called URL (Uniform Resource Locator). And also it is referred to as a unique address used to locate and retrieve the resources stored in a remote server for those websites on the internet called Web Address.
Many may wonder how the website is termed as a Web Address or URL and in what way. The actual reason is if you access a website you can see a predefined link format for all websites but how and what is it? Let’s start with an Image display followed by a short description of each.

What is a Web Address?
A web address is an information about a web page’s location, also known as a URL – Uniform Resource Locator. It is a unique referrer that takes you to a particular page.
When you want to visit a home, you need an address to find that home which is the face of that home. Likewise, Businesses, Individuals, Governments, Institutions, E-commerce, Social Media, Web Hosting, etc., will have an identity called Web Address to fetch the organized information/content about their services or platform.
What is My Web Address?
You can find the URL or web address of your website at the top of the address bar in the web browser. To live the website and have a web address of your own, you need to register a domain name and host it in a web hosting platform.
Components of Web Address or URL:
Scheme or Port:
It defines what type of protocol the user is trying to access or the website created with HTTP or HTTPS. If it is HTTP, then it is not secure and the information you update is no longer safe or secure. If it is https, then it is not fully safe but you can trust the website to update your information as the data passed on the internet will be encrypted.
Example:
https://www.seekahost.in
Domain Name:
When you access a website or search any term on a search engine it displays all the related websites and you could be able to view the content immediately. To make that possible, the name must connect with the IP address where the website is hosted or stored. That name is called Domain Name which is often termed a Website when the content is stored and made live.
Example:
https://www.seekahost.in
Here “www” is a subdomain. The last part of the domain name is called TLD. It defines what type of website it is and who its target audience is.
Example:
https://www.seekahost.in

File Path or Path:
If you enter a path or click any of the pages or links attached to the website homepage, the website name will be extended followed by a backward slash “/” which means you are viewing the additional resources or content added to the homepage under a specific category.
This notifies the user where they are currently placed to get those content from the primary website.
Example:
https://www.seekahost.in/blog
Parameters:
When you search for a keyword or term in Google, a lengthy URL will be displayed in the address bar. It contains all the information about the protocol, subdomain, domain name, TLD, path, parameters, and anchor.
If you search “SeekaHost India” and navigate to page 2 in Google, it provides additional information to the server to pass some variable or values which instruct them to search the keyword “SeekaHost India” and display the results of the second page by separating with “?” symbol. If multiple parameters are included, they will be separated by “&“.
Example:
https://www.google.com/search?q=seekahost+india&ei=_PjPe32AY&start=10&sa=N&ved=2
(Start = 0,10,20.. is page 1,2,3…)
Anchor:
It is similar to redirection of a website to another website but the redirection will be within the page to a particular paragraph or content heading. Let’s say you are on the About Us page of SeekaHost and see a team anchor text in one of the paragraphs. If you click that anchor “Team“, it will directly take you to the section or location of a team containing team member information which will be on the bottom of that page but not to any internal or external link. The anchor will be identified with a “#” symbol followed by a fragment identifier or specific name.
Example:
https://www.seekahost.in/about-us#team
