Users might be interested to enable and disable WHOIS privacy protection for their domains for various reasons. When you want to hide the WHOIS contact information, then the WHOIS information will display the registrar information replacing the original user information.
Let’s explore the basic information about WHOIS privacy and guide you through the process of enabling or disabling WHOIS contact information public for your domains.
What is Domain WHOis Privacy Protection?
When you register a domain under an account or use the contact information of your personal details like name, address, phone number, mail address, etc, that information will always be publicly visible as per the ICANN policy. To hide this information, users will enable ID protection, domain privacy protection, or WHOIS privacy protection for the domains which will replace their contact information with registrar information.
What is GDPR Consent Privacy Protection?
After the implementation of the GDPR policy, registrants can approve the data visibility based on their requirement for selective sections or TLDs. Now, the registrant contact information for the domains is redacted in the public WHOIS, and only the state/country shows in the WHOIS database as per the GDPR policy.
